from west to east
Cycle from castle to castle, from palace to palace along the Castle Road bicycle route. This route, just under 1,000 kilometers long, takes you past the numerous castles and palaces, all of them splendid witnesses to history beckoning the traveller to pause and linger for a while. In 2003, a touring book for cyclists (in German) has been published in the well-known and popular "bikeline" series, by the Esterbauer publishing house, entitled Deutsche Burgenstraße. Von Mannheim nach Nürnberg (The German Castle Road from Mannheim to Nuremberg). Its 120 pages contain absolutely everything the cyclist needs to know to guarantee his vacation happiness. Included are sectional maps on a scale of 1:50.000 that provide stage-by-stage details of the 409-kilometer route covered by this guide book. The guide also remains a reliable and trustiy companion in the towns and villages with its small detailed maps listing the most important streets and sightseeing attractions. Compact town histories are provided together with brief descriptions of the most important sights. The guide also includes a listing of overnight accommodations. The remaining section of the bicycle route from Nuremberg to the Czech border is fully signposted but is topographically somewhat more demanding for the weekend cyclist.
